Reusing building materials is time-consuming and expensive because contractors and developers must coordinate everything themselves, including finding and documenting what can be reused, dismantling, transportation, storage, quality checks, certification, and installation. The process is manual and fragmented, so reuse often costs more time and money than buying new, making reuse economically unviable for property developers, installers, and contractors.
The start
Staaltro was founded in 2024 during our master’s studies, sparked by one question: how can we turn waste into value? Learning that the construction industry generates 40% of all waste made it clear that change wasn’t optional — it was urgent. To understand where reuse stalls, we conducted over 140 interviews across the value chain — from demolition contractors to developers and wholesalers. We quickly saw that while reuse holds massive potential, it’s difficult to scale in practice.
Project managers told us what would make it work: buy used like new. That’s the path we chose.
Our solution
We deliver certified, ready-to-use reclaimed steel materials through the wholesalers contractors already know and trust, making reused materials as easy to buy as new.
We focus on cable trays — a standardized product used in high volumes across projects. By starting with one material, we can ensure quality, scale supply, and make reuse practical at industry level. Through wholesalers, customers can now order reused and new cable trays in the same package, with one delivery and full documentation.
Staaltro handles sourcing, testing, certification, and logistics, helping contractors and developers cut costs and risk, meet carbon targets, reduce waste, and get documentation that counts toward environmental reporting.
Our solution is built on the frustrations we heard from contractors, property developers, and installers — and we’ve made reuse simple, one material at a time.
